Eligibility

You can apply if you are:

  1. A New Zealand based forestry professional.

  2. Seeking professional or personal development related to forest management.

  3. Able to demonstrate clear financial need, meaning you would not be able to undertake the development opportunity without this award.

  4. The development opportunity will be completed with 12 months of the award being confirmed.

  5. Preference is given to applicants your first five years working in the New Zealand forestry industry.  Applicants with more than five years of industry experience may be considered if they strongly meet the other criteria.

What you need to do

  • Complete the online application form.

  • Upload your supporting documents (refer application information).

  • Submit by the closing date listed above.

What to include with your application

  • A brief summary of your current role, career stage, and forestry experience.

  • Details of the development opportunity (what it is, when it will occur, and why you chose it).

  • A short statement on how it will support your development in relation to forest management.

  • A simple budget covering fees and any relevant travel and accommodation costs.

  • A brief statement of financial need and your own contribution (time, effort, and or self funding).

  • Any relevant industry memberships or involvement (for example NZIF, Future Foresters).

How applications are assessed

Applications are considered against:

  • Development opportunity relevance to forest management.

  • Career stage.

  • Financial need.

  • Development opportunities, timeframe and benefits.

  • Personal investment.

  • Connection to forestry sector and memberships.

  • Quality of application.

Terms of payment

The donor may be involved in the final selection and confirmation of the awardee. The awardee may also be encouraged to attend the NZIF conference to receive the award at the awards dinner.

The awardee will be required to provide a report to the NZIF Foundation and donor following the completion of the deveopment the award has enabled, describing the benefit that this development has given them.

Background information

The donor of this Pocknall Professional Development Award is seeking to assist early career foresters with a wider range of development opportunities that would not otherwise be available due to funding.
